Chair Positions
The chair person is responsible for leading a project from its inception to execution. This includes planning, execution and managing the people, resources and scope of the project. These can include programs, fundraisers and clubs. Each chair person will receive support from the correlating Board Member.
**Please remember that these are only volunteer opportunities made available by the PTA. Laurel Park Elementary also provides volunteer opportunities within the school such as copy crew, media center volunteers as well as classroom volunteers. Basic Aid Training Chair |
Organizing materials for each class and working with teachers to organize a time to present to each classroom. Finding parent volunteers within the grade to assist in the presentation. Please know that this presentation is spelled out in the materials that you will use to teach the class. A background in first aid is nice, but not necessary. Finally, you will present materials to 4th grade classes. Each presentation is approximately 1 1/2 hours. B.A.T training reports into Programs. |

Beautification Committee Chair Filled |
Managing multiple projects throughout the school to help keep LEPS beautiful. Helping to recruit volunteers for individual projects. Organizing smaller groups to work on projects throughout the year. Overseeing these projects and keep within budget as well as a timeline. Projects may including painting the hallways, planting or adding to our playgrounds. This position works with the PTA President. |

Family Fun Night & Silent Auction Chair Open |
Leading a team to organize and plan our yearly Bingo event. This will include finding volunteers, coordinating small groups to complete tasks such as working with teachers and parents for Silent Action items. The chair person will also communicate the event to Fundraising Chair. This is considered a Fundraiser and will report to our Fundraising Chair. |

Chess Club Chair Filled |
Organizing the LPES Chess Club meetings, assisting in gathering participants, running the Club meetings once a week, organizing volunteers as well as relaying info to the Programs Chair regarding the Chess Club. This position will report to the Programs Chair. |

Cooking Up Character Chair Filled |

Spring Fundraiser/ No Fuss Fundraising Chair Open |
This position would include helping to find sponsors for our Fundraiser and any other tasks in preparing for the Fundraiser. The chairperson would also assist in finding volunteers to help with the event via sign up genius. Volunteering would begin with sourcing sponsors in late fall (with PTA assistance and support) , decorating in February and preparing materials in March. All together the time commitment each month is small and much can be done on your own time frame (weekends or evenings). This is a Fundraiser and will report into the Fundraising Chair. |

Garden Club Chairs Filled Parent Volunteers Needed |
Organizing the CUC meetings, Assisting in gathering participants and volunteers. Running the Club meetings once a month while relaying to VP of Programs regarding the Garden Club. This is a club and will report to VP of Programs. |

GoPlaySave Chair Filled Co-chair Needed |
Responsible for organization and delivery of all books/envelops to students. Send materials for communication to PTA Communications . Communicate with Teachers, Parents and Staff on the start of the program as well as questions that may arise. Create a system to receive returned books and money. Be sure that all order books are delivered when ordered. Hand out awards to all participants. Complete fundraiser by working with GoPlaySave company. This is a funddraising event and will report into the Fundraising Chair. |
July-August This fundraiser begins in July and will require daily visits to the school to receive orders or pick up. @ 6 hours a week. |
Heartwood Character Education Program Chair Filled |
This program involves working with teachers and parents to assure that each classroom has a parent volunteer. You will make electronic training available for volunteers and provide them with a schedule of when readings should be completed. You will be available for teacher and parents questions. Periodically check in to be sure volunteers are on track. |
All Year More hours at the beginning of the year to start. Subsequent hours reduce. Most work can be done from home. |
Hospitality Chair Filled |
This position will work with the community and parents to provide meals to our teachers and staff during early release days. Also organizing the food on the day of the event as well as clean up. This chair will also help to coordinate Teacher Appreciation in the Spring. This position reports into the PTA President. |
All Year @6 Early Release days @ 4 hours /month. |
Marcos Pizza Chair N/A |
This Chair coordinates with Marco`s pizza to organize this fundraiser. You will meet with Marco`s and assist in delivering pizza boxes out to the classroom for decorating. This will happen over a four week period to cover tracks individually. You will also be asked to communicate dates to the LPES Communications and be available to answer teacher and parent questions. This is a fundraiser and will report into the Fundraising Chair. |

Odyssey of the Mind Chair Filled |
The chair person will be responsible for communicating, recruiting and organizing a team for the school. You will work with parent volunteers to assists groups in meeting and practicing for their competition. This position will report to the Programs Chair. |
September-Spring Time commitment will vary each week. Heaviest time commitment comes before Spring competition. |
Passive Fundraising Chair(s) |
Box tops and grocery story points are included in passive fundraising. Box Tops require pick up at the school once a month, as well as mailing the tops in to receive rewards. Grocery store links require communication at the beginning of the year to re-link. This position will report to the Fundraising Chair. |
All Year 3 hours / month for Box Tops. Grocery Store link require a few hours at the beginning of the school year. |
Reflections Chair Filled |
Chair person will communicate time lines and rules to participants and will assist students with questions to be sure all pieces are returned in compliance. Chair will be responsible for collecting submissions and setting up a judging process. Will plan an organize a celebration for all artist who participated and prepare awards. Finally, will submit the qualifying pieces to the County level for judging. This position will report into the Programs Chair. |
Fall @15 hours over a month and a half. Most work can be done from home. |
School Kits Chair Filled |
Chair will communicate and organize all order forms for School Kits Order. This position will report into the Fundraising Chair. |

Scholastic Book Fair Chair Filled |
This Chair helps to organize the Scholastic Book Fair event held in the Media center every year. This includes set up, tear down, and the organization of volunteers as well as communication/marketing of the Book Fair. Chair person will work closely with the Media Specialist as well as our PTA Treasurer for daily deposits. This position will report into the Fundraising Chair. |
August- October This position has a minimal time commitment while planing, but hours will be more demanding during set up and duration of the Book Fair. |
Science Fair Filled Co-chair Needed |
The chair person would be responsible for organizing and communicating dates and timelines to the Program Chair. Works closely with the LPES Staff to organize the volunteers and judges for the Science Fair. Is responsible for the purchase of all awards. Will set a system to receive, judge and award Science Fair entries. Will arrange for lunch for all judges. Finally, will plan Science Fair Family Night. This person would work with the Program Chair. |
September-November Planning stages requires a short commitment initially, but will increase in hours as the Science Fair draws close. The day of the Science Fair/Family Night will be an all day commitment. |
Spirit Wear Filled |
Responsible for all Spirit Wear sales at events as well as twice a year order form campaigns. You will collect money and fulfill orders. Also, maintaining a stock of Spirit Wear by ordering thorough the vendor. This person would work with the Fundraising Chair. |

S.T.E.A.M Night Chair Filled |
The Chair person would be responsible for partnering with teachers and the community to organize a one night event. You would also work with LPES staff on time lines and communication. |
Spring A few hours of planning to start. 4 hours the night of the event. |
Trunk Or Treat Filled |
The Chair is responsible for planning and organizing the event. Will work with teams of volunteers to set up vendors who bring activities as well as bring in games. Oversee the purchase of prizes for games and contests. Will work with teachers to organize the pumpkin decorating contest. Finally, communicate a time line to the Program Chair. This position will report to the Programs Chair. |
October Planning is minimal and can be done at home. The event is held on a Saturday and will be a 4/5 hour commitment. |
Voting Filled |
Work with the NC PTA. There should be guidelines for you to follow and you will have volunteers to assist. This position would work with the Programs Chair. |
October-November Initially hours should be minimal. Voting day will take most of the school day. |
Walk/Bike to School Volunteers Needed |
Twice a year this person would organize and communicate and encourage all students to leave the bus and carpool behind and take an alternate mode of transportation. You will be present on the day and walk/bike with other parent volunteers to the school. You also can arrange for some fun activities in the park (meet up area) before hand. This position works with the Programs Chair. |
October(Walk) May (Bike) Planning may be done from home and should take a few hours. The day of the event would take about 2 hours in the morning before school. |
