Event Postions & Volunteer Opportunities

These positions are one time volunteer opportunities. They take place throughout the year and will only last for a short time. You would be under the direction of a chair person and would be assigned a specific job.  

**Please remember that these are only volunteer opportunities made available by the PTA. Laurel Park Elementary also provides volunteer opportunities within the school such as copy crew, media center volunteers as well as classroom volunteers. For more information on LPES volunteer positions, please contact your child`s teacher.

Beautification Committee
This committee will have active projects over the year. Some projects may be over a short time period for planning purposes prior to the event. Others will be a one day event such as a painting day. Some events may take place over the weekend.

Book Fair
There are many opportunities to help with Book Fair. You can choose from assisting with set up, work a shift during school hours and help on Family Night. 
October 14-25

​BINGO
Volunteers help to organize and run this event. ​​Commitment would 
​involve overseeing a task such as  food, prizes, or communications. You will also attend planning meetings over a month`s time and working the event the day of. 
We also look for additional volunteers who can help the day of the event.
February
Approximately 8 hours of prep time. 
4 hours the day of the event

Chess Club
Volunteers will help once a week at chess club meetings. 
Through the year.
​Meetings last one hour. 

**
Fun Run
Volunteers help one day to hand out water while students run. ​
Spring
One shift is approximately 30 minuets. ​

Garden Club
Volunteers will give their time a few mornings over the year to come and assist students in the garden. Volunteers are also needed for in-school garden mini lessons for each grade level.

Volunteers give their time once  month to read to the classroom.

Hospitality

We are looking for parents to donate items on early release to feed teachers during their work meetings.

​​Odyssey of the Mind
We are looking for parent coaches to work with students to prepare for competitions. ​​

Practices happen weekly and hours can vary. ​ ​​​

Science Fair ​​​​​
​​Helping with the collection of science projects and or assisting the Science Fair night.

This is one time commitment  that can last several hours.

Spirit Wear
Assistance is needed from time to time to sell Spirit Wear at a school event or help to sort and distribute​ orders. 
Throughout the year.
​Each volunteer session should only be an hour or two.

S.T.E.A.M Night
We are looking for volunteers who can assist in finding community vendors and clubs who can attend the event. Also, to assist on the day of the event. 
January 23, 2020
​A few hours of planning that can be done from home. One the event day, volunteer time would be approximately 4 hours.

​​Helping on the day of the event. This would involve set up, assisting with games and activities and clean up.

We will need several volunteers on voting day to assist the kids as they come into vote. ​​

​This is a one time event that will last a few hours.

​​Walk/Bike to school​
We are looking for volunteers to walk or bike with students from Apex Community Park to the school. ​​

Volunteering happens the day of the event and only last an hour. ​​​

​5th Grade Graduation
We are looking for a team of parents from each track to assist with putting together graduation. This will include putting together a slide show as well as preparing for decorations and cake for the reception following.
We also look for 4th grade parents who can serve cake at this event to free up our 5th grade parents.  ​​

Time commitment is minimal
