What is Reflections?
Reflections is an annual extracurricular art competition sponsored by PTA councils across the county.  Students create art work around a theme and submit a piece (or pieces) for judging. A select number of projects from Laurel Park will be submitted to Wake County PTA Reflections for judging at the county level.
Arts Areas
Students may submit works in any of the six areas (click for link to rules & guidelines for each):
  1. Dance Choreography
  2. Film Production
  3. Literature
  4. Musical Composition
  5. Photography
  6. Visual Arts

How do I register my child?

Please read the information for the specific Arts Area(s) that your child would like to enter. After deciding what area(s) the student wants to enter, follow the specific guidelines to create a project. After the project is finished, submit the work here

If you have any questions, please email Julie Jaquillard at laurelparkesreflections@gmail.com
ALL PROJECTS (and completed entry forms) ARE DUE ON OR BEFORE OCTOBER 18, 2021

Important Dates for 2021-2022
Final Art & Entry Form Due:
*Deadline extended* to October 18, 2021

Getting Started
The Competition begins with your child thinking about the theme "I WILL CHANGE THE WORLD BY..." and how to best translate their ideas and thoughts of that theme into a piece of art.  Maybe by composing a piece of music or capturing the theme in a photograph. What ever you choose, be sure to give the theme careful consideration.
  • The student may choose from six different mediums to express their idea; Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts.  Students may enter art in one or more of these mediums.
  • Take a moment to read over the general rules of the competition.
  • Once they have chosen the medium(s), please refer to the attached rules that pertain to the medium(s) your child would like to use. These rules will serve as a guideline for your child and will lead you through the process.
  • Create!
I've created my artwork, now what?
It is also important to remember that your child will have to fill out a Student Entry Google Form, (Entry Form). This will be handed in when the artist submits his or her artwork. This Student Entry Form will ask your child to fill in an artist statement. This short paragraph will allow the artist to express how they developed the concept for their artwork. Please be sure that your child completes the statement as it is an important element to the judging process.

When is the artwork due?
Art work due on October 8, 2021.

If you are not able to submit the artwork online, please email laurelparkesreflections@gmail.com BEFORE October 8, 2021 and we will figure out a way for you to submit your artwork!

What happens during and after the judging process?
 Artist will be broken up in two different divisions for judging. Primary, grades k-2 and intermediate, grades 3-5. Judges will then judge the art on three pieces of criteria;

  1. Artistic vision to portray the theme (artist statement is important here)
  2. Originality and creativity
  3. Artist merit

How will we know who the winners are?
The top twelve winners from both categories, primary and intermediate (24 total) will move to the next phase of the competition. The Wake County PTA Reflections judging. All those moving on will be notified by the Reflections committee. All participants will be recognized in a ceremony at the LPES STEAM Night (Date TBD).
