Bring your family and friends out to celebrate the kickoff of WAKE Up and Read's annual book drive at John Chavis Community Center on March 1 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. We will be accepting new books in support of our 28 partner schools and 17 child development centers to promote summer reading. There will be guest readers, games, giveaways, food, and fun. RSVP by Feb. 26.

Federal grant that helped Wake County schools hire more teachers has been cut
Our district recently learned that federal funding for a successful teacher recruitment program has been cut. The $11.78 million grant that supported Project LEADERS—a program that helped schools hire and keep more teachers—has been terminated immediately by the U.S.
